the irony makes me giggle

May 20th, 2009 | Posted by Ryan

for a little girl aged only four months, ellie sure has a great sense of timing and irony.

last friday, we took her in for her four-month check-up and the all important weigh-in. now, if you follow us on facebook, you’re well aware that we’re the proud parents of a bowling ball child: 98th percentile for her weight (17 lbs., 2 oz.) and 20th percentile for her height (coming in at a towering and intimidating 1 ft. 11.5 in.). what’s a girl to do when she can’t talk, walk, or read? eat, that’s what. and eat she does. honestly, it was only slightly concerning when we took her in to see the doctor, but we were told all is well. the only thing is that she doesn’t need, nor will she get, rice cereal, which we were hoping for so that she might continue to sleep through the night. nope. no cereal for you!

among other things, the doctor did say that she was hopeful ellie would be reaching for things by now, which, up until that day, she hadn’t really done. she also asked if ellie laughs out loud, which she sort of had done, but not really either. well, not two days after the appointment, what is this kid doing? she’s starting to reach for things and she found her giggle, which we will refer to from now on with the familiar LOL.

it’s so fun to see her discovering new things, but especially her voice. i think her laugh is beautiful, but then again, i am her dad.
