heeeelloooo solids! well, sort of.
this past sunday marked a couple of major milestones for ellie. first of all, she turned six months old. a significant mile-marker in its own right, but it was also the first time she had anything more than breast milk or formula. we took the opportunity to start simple, as they recommend you do (whoever “they” are), and gave her some rice cereal. so, really, she had soup, not legitimate solids, but every immature digestive tract has to start somewhere, right?
coming into this first feeding we were both excited and a little nervous. we were talking about ellie here, a baby notorious for her frequent fuss. but, to our surprise she did pretty well. of course, she didn’t know what to make of the spoon – she tried to suckle on it like she would a bottle nipple – and she wasn’t quite sure how to hold the cereal in her mouth and swallow, but she caught on.
even more surprising is how quickly she has continued to improve with eating from the spoon, but i guess all she really needs is the practice.
go ellie!
